In Chapter 6, we introduced the property entropy, and from that property we deduced the thermodynamic behavior of real systems with various forms of the Second Law of Thermodynamics. In this chapter, we apply that information to study and predict the behavior of real engineering devices. We will do that by first defining the behavior of idealized devices that have no irreversibilities, and then by defining how real devices depart from that ideal behavior when irreversibilities are present.
